The Jade Bangle. More often than not, we’ve had clients text us on wanting to find the perfect bangle. We know it is not easy to choose the right bangle, so here’s a guide to assist all our clients to find the perfect one!

Bangle shape

Firstly, there are various shapes that jadeite raw material is cut into. For bangles, there are 3 main shapes that are available.

1.       The “Classic” Cut (正圈)- This shape is a circular shape with flat straight edged inner. Known as the Classic cut, it is a favourite and most popularly shape for a bangle. This shape is comfortable and easy to wear, sits on the wrist nicely and like the name suggests, a classic. You can never go wrong with a good jade bangle in this shape.

2.       The “Round” Cut (圆骨) – The round cut is a more traditional cut, which was popular in the olden days as this cutting usually has a slimmer width, making it a choice of some clients. This shape is characterised by the rounded edges, resembling a straw that’s connected end to end in a circular shape. This shape does well when the Type A jadeite has good colour as it accentuates the entire bangle’s look. Sometimes, this bangle also come in chunkier thickness which will definitely turn eyes with their statement presence.

3.       The “Oval” Cut (贵妃) – This shape is charactered by the ovular structure, with flat inner. The oval shape is great for people with a slimmer oval shaped wrist as it is very comfortable to wear. However, for people with bigger bone structure at the thumb, it is not advisable to purchase this shape as it can be very difficult to put on the right size.

Bangle Size

For jade bangle sizing, we always go by the inner diameter of the bangle – that means, the length end to end on the inner part of the jadeite bangle. A size 55 type ‘A’ Jadeite bangle would mean a 55mm diameter across the inner part of the bangle.

This will be the inner diameter of both a Classic Cut and Round Shape.

For an oval shape, we generally use the inner diameter of the wider side of the jade bangle.

To determine one’s bangle size, we will need a ruler to measure palm breadth.

With this measurement, you can refer to the table below that the team at Little Jadeite House has carefully curated for you to follow. The size here refers to the inner diameter of the bangle shape that you should go for.

For example, if you have a palm breadth of 70, the recommended size is 54 for classic shape, 55 for round shape and 56 for oval shape. However, most often, you will be able to wear +/- 1.5 sizing. As such, if you like a 55.5 classic shape bangle, it will still fit alright.
